Aluminum
cans are recycled by the Baranof
Barracudas Swim Club, who raise money for swim meets and travel. The city recycles scrap aluminum and a
wide variety of other scrap metals.
Aluminum
cans may be recycled at the Recycling Center at the Marine
Service Center on Katlian Street. They may also be recycled at Sea Mart and Lakeisde
Grocery and the main Sitka
post office on Sawmill
Creek Road.
Aluminum
food cans should be rinsed clean and labels
removed. Crush food and beverage cans if possible.
Aluminum
pieces, industrial scraps, old skiffs, etc. should be taken to the Sawmill Cove Industrial Park
Recycling Center. Call 747-1804 for information.
The Baranof
Barracuda Swim Club -- with more than
50 swimmers presently involved -- is made up of youths aged 7 to 18 years.
The Barracudas have been reducing Sitka's waste by recycling aluminum for more than 20
years. Many believe the Barracudas'
efforts to be the oldest recycling program in Alaska!
This is a great program that has been helping Sitka for decades. The program is run entirely by volunteer
labor. Please help support the Baranof Barracudas by saving your aluminum
cans!
